Something that is enquired about a lot is the unusual symbol used on
the television series Charmed about the three young witches the Halliwell
sisters who live in San Francisco.
The symbol they use in the program is the Triquetra try-KET-ra, Latin
for three cornered.
As viewers and fans of the show will already know the Triquetra symbol
represents in the series “the power of three” the combined
magical power of the three sisters Prue, Piper and Phoebe.
The Triquetra is embossed on the cover of their “Book of Shadows," which
is a powerful spell book that they use in their magical adventures.

The Triquetra represents to the Christian community one of the corner
stones of their belief the Holy Trinity: the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. The unbroken circle represents the eternity of gods creation.
The interwoven nature of the symbol denotes the indivisibility equality
and power of the Holy Trinity. It is meant to symbolize that the
Holy Spirit is three beings of power, honour, and glory but is indivisibly
one God.
The Triquetra was undoubtedly in use before the Christian religion took
it up and put their interpretation on it.

In the pagan world the Triquetra is used to represents the fundamental
idea common across most nature based religions of threefold nature
of the Goddess as virgin, mother and crone.
It symbolizes the forces that affect all beings on the planet: life,
death, rebirth and the three forces of nature that sustains and dominates
all things that are part of the world that we inhabit: earth, air, and
water. The inner three circles represent the female element and fertility
and the outer circle the cycle of life.

due in no small parts to the popularity about the subject in T.V. programmes
and upsurge in interest in the pagan religions. There
are many different paths and traditions but by way of an introduction.
The Belief in the number three as being a magical holy or divine
number can be found in many cultures and belief systems through out

In the west the Triquetra symbol has been found on stones at religious
sites carved several centuries ago. In the runes of the Norse peoples
there is one that resembles the Triquetra known as the Odin Knot or Val
Knot
As was mentioned early Christian church took many pagan symbols, rituals,
and holidays and incorporated then into there belief system. We would
consider that all the evidence points that the symbol originated first
in pagan religious belief and that this is another case of Christianity
appropriating what was all ready in use.
