Inscribing a Mystic Pentagram

Inscribing a pentagram is very simple. There are five points on your body that correspond with the five points on the pentagram. All you have to do is stand up and use your arm to trace a connecting line in the air between these points.

You can do it almost anywhere, at any time and although traditionally you would face East, if you haven’t got a compass handy it doesn’t really matter.

  1. Stand with your legs apart, and your head held high.
  2. Hold out your right arm,* and stretch out your first and middle fingers
  3. Bring them up to touch your forehead. Hold this position for a brief moment.
  4. Now bring them down across your body in a diagonal line, to touch your left knee.
  5. Next, bring them across to your right shoulder.
  6. Now move them over to your left shoulder.
  7. Now down again to your right knee
  8. Finally, bring them back to up to your forehead.

Although there are theories about the cosmic significance of the left and right sides of the body, it doesn’t really matter which arm you use. You might in time what to delve deeper into these theories of symbolism but to begin with they will just lead to confusion and add nothing to your magical work.

What does this all mean?

As you inscribe the pentagram, your left knee represents the element of Earth, your right shoulder is Water, your left shoulder is Air and your right knee is Fire. Symbolically you are bringing together the four elements of your inner self in a gesture of unification.

You are acknowledging the existence of your inner spirit top of the pentagram and you are expressing a fundamental desire to be in harmony with creation itself. There’s no need to think of anything quit so specific while you do it. Just be generally aware of the significance, and let the actions speak for themselves. This is the ritual of the pentagram. It is very ancient, very beautiful and very magical.

Now that you know how, you can perform the ritual of the pentagram at any time you choose. It can be a gentle prelude to all your magical activities. It can help you regain your calm after hectic day, or inspire you to stand back from you problems, summon up your inner perspective and see things in a positive uncomplicated light.
